The ProSim738 Instructor Operating Station (IOS) is a web-based application that allows the user to control several features of the simulator, like weather and position. Next to that, it allows for easy and mobile access to ProSim738 parameters, such as failures, weight & balance and a variety of configurations, such as display options (weight units, VSD on or off, etc.). These options will all be discussed in this article.

IOS Main screen

1 Setup

The IOS is part of ProSim738 Systems, and is ran on a web-server that is hosted in the systems module. By default, the port used to run the IOS is 8080. To reach the IOS, there are two options: via the ProSim738 Systems menu, or through the direct URL of the IOS. Depending on the IP address the computer running ProSim738 Systems has, this URL ends with :8080. For example: the IP address of the computer running Systems is 192.168.2.25 then the URL one must type in the browsers address bar is 192.168.2.25:8080.

The IOS can be accessed by other devices, as long as they are part of the same network. It is strongly advised to give all devices within your simulator setup a fixed IP address. To learn more on how to do this, visit the ProSim737 initial setup page.

2 Cockpit Setup Options

Even though all B737's look the same, there are major differences in the software used. This can even be true between 737's in the fleet of one airline. These differences can be caused by age difference, but also by customer preference.

2.1 Audio options

On the audio tab, several options concerning audio warnings in the cockpit can be configured. The following audio warnings can be turned on or off:

3 Using the IOS

The IOS can be accessed with the following browsers:

  • Edge
  • Internet Explorer 11 & up
  • Google Chrome
  • Mozilla Firefox

In the upper right hand corner of the IOS, there is a button bar that holds a couple of buttons:

IOS Button Bar

These buttons allow you to do the following:

  1. Pause the simulator. Click the button again to un-pause;
  2. Freeze the simulator. This pauses the simulator but allows you to adjust roll and pitch without changing the plane's position;
  3. Mute the simulator; click again the un-mute;
  4. Browser settings
    1. Turn the on-screen keyboard on or off; this is useful when using a touch-screen device;
    2. Turn sound of the IOS on or off;
  5. Turn dark mode on or off; click again to turn off dark mode.

3.1 Main page

The main page is divided into three tabs, which allow for quick repositioning actions, management of ground services and real-time parameters.

3.1.1 Main tab

The first tab is the 'Main'-tab. On this tab, the position of the aircraft can be set to any of 5 predefined positions. A position is stored by maneuvering the aircraft to the desired position, and then pressing the 'Store'-button underneath the required slot. With this method, it is easy to practice landings or quickly reset the aircraft after an exercise.

3.1.2 Service

The services tab allows you to manage ground services, such as ground power and pushback. The doors can also be opened or closed via this tab.

3.1.3 Parameters

The last tab on the main page is the 'Parameters'-tab. On this tab, a number of parameters concerning flight, radio and engine are shown in real time.

3.2 Map page

The map page displays a dynamic map, showing the aircraft's position. The buttons above the map allow you to alter which navigational aids are shown on the map, such as VOR stations, airspace boundaries or the route that is currently active in the ProSim738 CDU.
